The City of Agra, being on golden tourist circle has numerous heritage and tourist attraction around the city and within 250 Km. Apart from Taj Mahal, Agra has number of good monuments and places to visit which are famous for tourist attraction and it is worth visiting them. So if you have plan to visit Agra Taj Mahal, then don’t forget to include these places in your travel itinerary.

Agra has a dried, dusty geography combined with extreme weathers with sharp changes respect to seasons.

The Summer Season:

The summer season in Agra starts from April to July and has searing heat, complemented by hot, blowing winds. The summer season has comparatively to less crowd, the rates of the hotels as well as restaurants are also at their lowest. Summer season can be a most affordable season to visit Agra tourism.

The Monsoon Season:

Agra Fort

Agra fort is also known as Red Fort of Agra, a fabulous red sandstone fortress, situated just across the river from the Taj Mahal, is surely one of the finest forts in India. This red fort is also a UNESCO Word Heritage site is one of the most robust and important Mughal forts in India. Originally the brick structure dating back to the 10th century, it was rebuilt in red sandstone 450 years ago by Emperor Akbar, a mammoth project that took eight years to complete. This building is the one of the finest example of Mughal architecture.

Agra fort has various building in fort complex. The name of few building are Jahangir Palace built in magnificent blend of Persian and local style architecture. Where Divan-e-Aam (general meeting hall) is mixes of Turkish exteriors architecture with the complex pattern of Persian architecture. Other buildings within the Agra Fort Complex are either have a mixed style or conform predominantly to the Islamic style. Some of the important buildings inside the Agra Fort include Jahangir Mahal, Divan-e-Aam, Divan-e-Khash, Khas Mahal, Anguri Bagh, Musamman Burj, Moti Masjid, Mina Masjid and Shish Mahal etc.

Akbar’s Tomb, Sikandra

Akbar tomb is Resing place of the great Mughal emperor Akbar. The tomb’s construction was completed by his son prince Salim also called Jahangir. Akbar planned the tomb and selected a suitable site for it. After his death, Akbar’s son Jahangir completed the construction in 1605–1613.

Akbar tomb is located at Sikandra, 8 kilometre suburban town from Agra city. 14 Km far from Taj Mahal. It is on the Mathura Agra national highway road, National Highway no 2. It is located 1 km away from Mariam’s tomb.
This monument is at its prime beauty throughout the year. However, people choose winter, as it will be pleasing with mild climate. Tips: If you are visiting during rainy season, you will not be able to spot any animals inside the complex.

Ideal Time to visit Akbar Tomb: The tomb is open from 6 in the morning to 6:30 in the evening every day.

Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur sikri is town near Agra and in the list of Tourist attraction near Taj Mahaj Agra. Built by Mughal Emperor the great Akbar, and construction completed in the year 1584. It is one-of-its-kind city and is counted amongst the most majestic cities of the Mughal Empire. Fatehpur Sikri is also one of three UNESCO World Heritage Sites situated in Agra, other two being Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.

Location of Fatehpur Sikri is 35 Km away from Agra. The nearest Airport is Agra Airport, India (also known as Kheria Airport), and it is 40 kilometres (25 mi) from Fatehpur Sikri. The nearest railway station is Fatehpur Sikri railway station, is about 1 kilometre away from the city centre. It is connected to Agra and neighbouring centres by road, where regular bus services operated.

Itmad ud Daula Tomb

Itmad ud Daula also known as Jewel Box or Baby Taj is the very first tomb in Indian History which was entirely made out of Marble stone. The tomb was built between 1622 and 1628 and it represents a transition between the first phase of monumental Mughal architecture – primarily built from red sandstone with marble decorations. his tomb was built for Nur Jagan’s father. Although small in size when compared to the Taj Mahal, a visit to the baby Taj is like taking a brief step back in time in Agra’s history, one best done after a visit to the iconic structure.
